MALL AREA RELIGIOUS COUNCIL

 COVENANT

PREAMBLE

In acknowledging the shared life we have been given by God, the members of this organization are committed to working together to further the values of understanding, community, dignity, respect, and peace in a diverse and complex world moving into the 21st century. The Mall of America brings together people from all corners of the world and offers a unique setting in which to provide a broad based spiritual presence where religious and cultural curiosity can be satisfied and interfaith cooperation can be modeled.

                                                                    Article I    NAME

The name of the organization shall be the Mall Area Religious Council.

Article II   PURPOSE

  1. To provide a spiritual presence at the Mall of American embodying the values of understanding, community, dignity, respect, and peace.
  2. To provide educational experiences, services, and products which enable people to explore spiritual meaning in their lives.
  3. To provide opportunities for interfaith dialogue, study and conversation in congregations, at the Mall of America, and between persons of differing cultures and traditions.
  4. To provide accurate information about world religions and local religious and community services.
  5. To model interfaith cooperation, and
  6. To provide opportunities for contemplation and reflection at the Mall of America.

Article III   MEMBERSHIP

  1. Any religious organization that acknowledges the MARC Preamble and Purpose is invited to become a member of MARC according to the provisions of the organizational covenant of MARC.
  2. Voting membership shall consist of up to three designated representatives from each religious organization, one of whom may be clergy. Each representative shall have a vote. Other individuals in attendance who accept the Statement of Purpose shall be allowed voice without vote.
  3. Application for membership in MARC shall be endorsed by the governing body of the religious organization and submitted in writing to the Executive Committee including names of the voting delegates and alternates.


Article IV MEETINGS

  1. Regular meetings of MARC shall be held at least quarterly or as called by the officers or four or more of the participating organizations.
  2. The Annual Meeting of MARC shall be held during the month of October of each year.
  3. A quorum shall consist of representatives present of the member organizations.
  4. The secretary shall notify all member organizations and designated representatives at least ten days prior to meetings and at least thirty days prior to the Annual Meeting.
  5. All meetings shall be held in the local community.


    Article IV OFFICIERS

The officers shall be elected annually. They shall be:
President
First Vice President
Second Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
The officers shall form the executive Committee for MARC and the president shall be the official spokesperson for MARC.

Article VI     COMMITTEES

Committee and Task Forces shall be established and discontinued by the executive Committee as necessary.

Article VII      AMENDMENTS

Amendments to this document shall be submitted to the Executive Committee and the membership of MARC at least 60 days before the Annual Meeting and are to be submitted to MARC membership 30 days before said Annual Meeting or a special meeting called for this purpose.

Article VIII    MEMBERSHIP FEES

An initial membership fee for each organization is $50.00 for administration and operational expenses. The annual membership fee shall be paid annually not later than 30 days before the Annual Meeting. The Executive Committee shall have the authority to waive or reduce the membership fee for special situations. Additional funding may be determined as needed by MARC.


This Covenant was adopted at the first Annual Meeting on October 27, 1990.
